AIRFLOW - Air Velocity and Direction Monitor for Tunnels

Designed specifically for the tunnel environment,

the AIRFLOW offers a high performance, non-contact

solution for air speed and direction measurement

Airflow

AIRFLOW offers a rugged, non-contact solution for the universal requirement to monitor air velocity and direction in the tunnel.

AIRFLOW is a low cost, low maintenance solution that is ideally suited to the tunnel environment. A modern design, using the latest technology and components, housed in a stainless-steel enclosure - this instrument is closest yet to a “fit and forget” airflow monitor.

Like the VCOM and NOVICOM gas analysers, the AIRFLOW has a ““stand alone” capability (i.e. it has no need for a control unit), so it simply requires power in, and provides outputs out – directly from the sensor head. However, an optional control unit (known as the OI), with display and keypad, is also available for those requiring a more conventional human interface or remote outputs.

Both the AIRFLOW and the optional OI offer a full complement of industry standard outputs including:  4-20mA analogues, relay alarm contacts, and a choice of serial comms, including ModBus, Profibus, DeviceNet, Ethernet etc.

The measurement itself is made using proven ultrasound technology. An array of transceivers in the body of the instrument transmit a series of phased ultrasound clicks which are bounced off the instruments “roof” and then collected again by the transceivers in order. The time taken for the phased ultrasound signals to travel from one transceiver to another is accurately measured to calculate the velocity in a single axis. This allows the instrument to determine speed and direction.

No calibration is required, set-up can be performed in minutes with the free PC software, and maintenance simply involves infrequent cleaning – the AIRFLOW monitor really is that simple.
