New Product Alert – LUMIOS MkIII Luminance Photometer

Tunnel Sensors releases the third generation luminance photometer, the LUMIOS MkIII, designed specifically for use in tunnels.

As with previous generations, the LUMIOS MkIII uses a specially designed, highly light-sensitive photocell, filtered to provide a spectral response close to that of the average human eye, to react to changes in light levels at the entrance and exit to, as well as within, the tunnel environment. This helps to ensure that the visual perception of drivers is maintained by avoiding sudden variations in lighting levels and potential “black hole effect” when entering and exiting a tunnel.

However, unlike the earlier LUMIOS models which had a fixed viewing angle of 20º, the LUMIOS MkIII has the option to vary the viewing angle such that it can measure the average luminance within a fixed viewing angle, that can be preset during manufacture, within the range 10 to 40º. The standard instrument has an acceptance angle of 20º, (as recommended by Commission Internationale de l´Eclairage, (C.I.E.), publication 88, 1990).

 

The LUMIOS MkIII Luminance Photometer has been designed to enable it to withstand extremes of weather conditions. The complete electronic system is contained within a water-proof, IP66 rated heated housing of 316 Stainless Steel and has an operating temperature range from -30oC – +70oC which ensures stable readings across all prevailing ambient temperature conditions.

 

The LUMIOS MkIII is a self-contained intelligent analyser and offers the option of either analogue output or serial comms in the form of ModBus RTU via RS485. With a “walk-up” comms port, free utility software and data logging, the LUMIOS MkIII is simple to set-up and use.
