The 2nd “Tunnels and ITS” Symposium, Norway

Sun 1 Sep 2013

Tunnel Sensors will be attending the 2nd Tunnel and ITS Symposium in Bergen Norway from the 18th – 19th September.

This second international symposium is organised jointly by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and ITS Norway and will focus on the development and deployment of intelligent transport systems for tunnels with high or low traffic density.

Over the next 10 years, more than 120 km of new tunnels are expected to open in the western region of Norway alone. The need for efficient and safe solutions in tunnels is growing in pace with the increase in traffic density. Accordingly, planning for traffic breakdown situations in tunnels is also gaining in importance. The possibility of an increase in the frequency of complete standstills in vital urban tunnel networks makes ITS solutions critical.

The symposium is administered by Tekna – The Norwegian Society of Graduate Technical and Scientific Professionals and further information can be found at

The VNOX offers a single sensor
solution for monitoring NO2
and visibility within the tunnel

The LUMIOS MkIII measures the level luminance, or brightness, at tunnel portals to ensure that the visual perception of drivers is maintained, both day and night.

The NOVICOM is a single sensor solution for measuring CO, NO and visibility in road tunnels. An optional NO2 or total NOx reading can also be derived from the NO measurement.
